Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse Review

Do more, more easily with your mouse. With soft rubber grips and a contoured shape, this full size mouse provides all-day comfort, while Back/Forward buttons, side-to-side scrolling plus zoom and programmable buttons empower you to click, scroll and zoom with the flick of a finger.

The Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse is an inexpensive, moderate quality wireless mouse that is designed to give an affordable Logitech solution for casual computer users. Selling for only $39.99 on Amazon, and with an extensive list of features, this mouse is ideal for family computers. The mouse body is ergonomically shaped so it fits naturally into the palm of your hand, and is easy to use for all age groups. Additionally, the unifying receiver is a small USB plug that you can just place in your computer and forget about. This device can be used as a wireless receiver for up to 6 Logitech devices, which can help save USB slots on your computer and can allow you to use one receiver for your keyboard and mouse.

Another great feature of this mouse is the extremely long AA battery life. It is advertised on the box as being able to last up to 2 years before the batteries have to be changed, but does warn that the more you use the mouse, the quicker the batteries will drain. I have used this mouse extensively for the past month and have not yet had to change the batteries, which I usually have to do with other wireless mice. The battery indicator will tell you when you need to change the batteries, which is a nice feature but one that you won’t use all that often.  Another nice feature is the fact that the mouse works on both Mac based computers (OS X 10.4 or higher) and Windows based PCs (XP, Vista, or 7).

There are a number of hot keys on the side of the mouse which allow you to go backwards and forwards when browsing the web, as well as horizontal scrolling and a zoom feature. There are three programmable hot keys that you can use to access applications quite quickly, but the use of all of these hot keys requires the download of software from Logitech’s official site, which can be a bit of a pain, as the mouse doesn’t work right out of the box.

I would highly recommend the M510 mouse for use with a family computer, or for someone looking for an inexpensive mouse with a very long battery life. While the mouse is not the best one available, and does lack some features that could be useful for gaming computers or for simple computing, it is a moderately priced piece of equipment which could go well with most computer set ups.
